  • AVO Coordination Meeting Photos
    Photos from the flight to Anchorage, Alaska and the return flight to Washington, D.C. from December 4-8, 2022. The layover site was in Seattle, Washington. I was heading to Alaska for the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) Coordination Meeting. While in Anchorage, Alaska, they received some pretty good snowfalls on December 5-6, 2022, so there are a couple snowfall photos. Any blurry photos from the planes are due to the engine exhaust and at other times due to the lower light near sunset and sunrise.

They also dedicated the National Native American Veteran's Memorial after the procession with a more formal ceremony that they did not get to do the year before when the Memorial was originally finished and dedicated in a much smaller ceremony due to COVID-19. Also includes some photos from the museum exhibits.

    Photos from Honor Flights that I and the family greeted as they arrived at Dulles International Airport, Reagan National Airport and the World War II Memorial in Virginia. These flights bring World War II veterans into Washington D.C. to see the World War II Memorial.

  • 2022 Pacific Northwest Trip Photos
    Photos from the July 14, 2022 to August 7, 2022, family vacation to the Pacific Northwest. This year's trip was to see the sites of Montana, Washington, Oregon, California, and Northern Nevada. Aurora got one more state in Oregon, and now just needs Hawai'i to have all 50. Some sites visited during the trip were: Great River Bluffs State Park, Minnesota; Earthquake Lake, Montana; Big Hole National Battlefield, Montana; several sites of the Nez Perce National Historic Park, Idaho; Dry Falls State Park, Washington; Seattle, Washington with the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and Harbor Cruise; Mount Rainier National Park, Washington; Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Washington; Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Washington; Multnomah Falls, Oregon; Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, Oregon and Washington; Mount Hood State Park, Oregon; John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Oregon; Tumalo State Park, Oregon; several sites in Newberry Volcanic National Monument, Oregon; Crater Lake National Park, Oregon; Toketee Falls, Oregon; Redwoods State and National Parks, California; Lassen Volcanic National Park, California; Mount Shasta, California; Lava Beds National Monument, California; and Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway, Nevada. We were also able to see a Navy buddy and his wife, Jake and Amy, for lunch in Salt Lake City, Utah. We finished the trip with a great concert for Charli XCX once we got back into Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Photos from the June 4, 2022, Volunteer Day in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania that the family and I had with the other Friends of Gettysburg members. We all helped clear brush and then rebuild fences at the Henry Spangler Farm.

  • 2022 Old Antarctic Explorers Association Reunion and San Diego, California Photos
    Photos from the Reunion for the Old Antarctic Explorers Association that was held in San Diego, California from May 8-12, 2022. While there, I went on a couple tours with the group to Balboa Park, Old Town, USS Midway Museum, and Kansas City BBQ (where the bar scene from 'Top Gun' took place). Fellow NSFA Winter-Over, Jake and his family were there for the Reunion as well. We all took some trips after the Reunion to Point Loma to see Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and Cabrillo National Monument for the Tide Pools and Old Point Loma Lighthouse. We also took in lunch from Old Town as well. The day before I left, I took about a 6.5 mile hike within the Mission Trails Regional Park with the one being the Oak Canyon Trail. Photos were taken from the plane on the way to and from San Diego.
