  • West Virginia Civil War Battlefields Photos
    Photos taken on September 11, 2015 while visiting a couple of Civil War battlefields in West Virginia. Those visited were the Battle of Philippi (June 3, 1861), Camp Laurel Hill (July 7-11, 1861), Battle of Rich Mountain (July 11, 1861), Battle of Droop Mountain (November 6, 1863), and Battle of Carnifex Ferry (September 10, 1861). There are also photos from a stop at the Green Bank National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

  • Historic Triangle, Virginia Visit Photos
    Photos from our weekend trip to the Historic Triangle Region of Virginia from July 16-19, 2015. The Historic Triangle comprises the three towns of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown in Virginia. The first capital of Virginia, Colonial Williamsburg, was the first stop. Next we headed to Historic Jamestowne and Jamestown Settlement where in 1607, the first English foothold in America took place. Then it was on to Yorktown Battlefield, where on October 19, 1781, the British surrendered to the Americans and French to pretty much end the American Revolutionary War. While in those areas, we also checked out some of the Civil War battlefield sites for the Battle of Williamsburg (May 5, 1862), the Battle of Yorktown (May 3-4, 1862), Battle of Lee's Mill (April 5, 1862) along with the Battle of Dam #1 (April 16, 1862), and the Battle of Big Bethel (June 10, 1861). We also stopped in Newport News, Virginia to see the areas where one could see some of the naval engagements from the Battle of Hampton Roads (March 8-9, 1862). Our last Civil War stop was to Fort Monroe, Virginia. We finished up with a quick visit with Kate's sister in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The final 56 photos were taken in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia on August 29, 2015 on a secondary trip to see some of the town that we didn't the first time around.

    Photos taken on August 7, 2015 of a day in Washington, DC. We mainly headed there to see a concert that evening at the Smithsonian American Indian Museum. Pictures are from the museum and the concert for A Tribe Called Red from Ottawa, Canada.

    Photos taken on the return trip from Pittsburgh on June 8, 2015. I stopped off at Fort Frederick State Park, Maryland and then later on stopped off to the area where the Battle of Funkstown, Maryland took place on July 10, 1863.

  • 2015 Volunteer Day in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Photos
    Photos from the June 6, 2015 Volunteer Day in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania that the my cousin Tommy, the family, and I had with the other Friends of Gettysburg members. Tommy and I helped build fences while Kate and Aurora helped paint the names on headstones in the National Cemetery. Tommy and I had also stopped off in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, on June 5, 2015, to see the town that the Confederates invaded three different times (1862, 1863, and 1864) and burned it down on the final time. Tommy and I had also stopped of at the Jenny Wade House in Gettysburg to get the story about the only civilian killed during the Battle of Gettysburg.

  • 150th Anniversary of the Grand Review of the Armies Photos
    Photos taken on May 17, 2015 for the 150th Anniversary of the Grand Review of the Armies in Washington, DC. to celebrate the ending of the Civil War. The actual Grand Review took place on May 23, 1865 (General Meade's Army of the Potomac) and May 24, 1865 (General Sherman's Army of the Tennessee and Army of Georgia).

  • 70th Anniversary of V-E Day and Flyover in Washington, DC Photos
    Photos taken on May 8, 2015 of the ceremony for the 70th Anniversary of V-E Day - the German Surrender during World War II. The ceremony took place at the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. It was followed by the "Arsenal of Democracy Flyover" that amassed just over 50 American aircraft that were used to train in and fight in during the war.

  • 150th Anniversary of John Wilkes Booth's Escape Route Photos
    Photos from a day trip to retrace the route taken by John Wilkes Booth from when he shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater in Washington, DC (April 14, 1865) to when he was shot and killed at the Garrison Barn in Virginia (April 26, 1865). The photos were taken on April 25, 2015. Visits to the Surratt House and Tavern Museum and the Samuel A. Mudd Museum were made during the trip.

  • 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Averasboro, North Carolina Photos
    Photos from the short visit to Averasboro State Battlefield in North Carolina on March 20, 2015. The actual battle took place on March 16, 1865. There are a couple early photos take from the area of the Battle of Swift Creek (May 9, 1864 during the Bermuda Hundred Campaign) near Richmond, Virginia before heading south that day.

    Photos from a day trip to Lexington, Virginia on March 8, 2015 to see the Virginia Military Institute Museum and visit a friend and check out the Robert E. Lee Hotel in town.

  • 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Hatcher's Run, Virginia Photos
    Photos from a Military Working Dog demonstration held at Petersburg National Battlefield Park in Virginia on February 7, 2015. It was on the 150th Anniversary of the 3rd day of the Battle of Hatcher's Run that took place from February 5-7, 1865. A dog mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment named Sallie was killed at the battle. The military working dogs were from Fort Lee, Virginia.
