On December 1, 2013, we stopped off for a quick visit to the final resting place for one Francis Scott Key. This cemetery in Frederick, Maryland is where he is buried. There is also a section dedicated to the fallen soldiers from the Battles of Antietam (1862) and Monacacy (1864) that are nearby. I attended reenactments in 2012 to several of these battles but they were usually held in a different location, or the weather was bad to see the actual battlefield. I went to see the actual sites, or what remained of them on June 22, 2013. The battles are for Port Republic, VA (June 9, 1862), Cross Keys, VA (June 8, 1862), McDowell, VA (May 8, 1862), First Kernstown, VA (March 23, 1862), Second Kernstown, VA (July 23, 1864), and Third Winchester, VA (September 19, 1864).
